Western Sydney Filmmakers Hangout

We help connect, empower and inspire
Western Sydney Filmmakers.

Western Sydney Filmmakers Hangout (WSFH) is a community-driven, grassroots movement with the goal to help grow, strengthen & encourage the Western Sydney Filmmaking community. We’re not just collaborators - we’re a family.

But WSFH isn’t just a Facebook group. We believe in putting names to faces and drinks to mouths with our free, informal networking events. We’re all about creating an open and approachable environment for the Western Sydney film community where we can support one another and thrive.

So whether you’re a veteran of the arts or just starting out in the industry, we’d love to meet you at the bar and chat about all things film.

Hangouts &

Networking

We host regular meet ups (about every 3 months or so) in Parramatta. They’re free to attend and always will be. We also occasionally co-host additional events in Western Sydney with organisations such as Screen Australia, Made in the West Film Festival, and Arts and Cultural Exchange (ACE).

Community Support

Western Sydney Filmmakers Hangout aims to support out local community. In 2020 we did our part and raised over $600 in donations for the The Trustee for NSW Rural Fire Service & Brigades Donations Fund to help with the devastating bushfires in New South Whales.

During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, we partnered with Made in the West Film Festival to bring our networking events online. These events were popular, and now continue to run to this day.

Who started this mess?

Founded by international award-winning filmmaker, podcaster and comedian Matthew C. Vella (Vellamatt Films) with the help of a friend. The idea sparked after meeting at Made in the West Film Festival 2016 with the desire to connect more often with other local filmmakers.

As of 2018, WSFH is now solely managed & operated by Matthew C. Vella. You can learn more about his film productions at the Vellamatt Films website.
